Ethnicity, culture, the colours of skin… They define us, unite us and divide us. Under their banner, nations have been built, wars have been fought, traditions have been observed. They inspire love, kinship, loyalty as well as contempt, hatred and a sense of superiority. To me, race, ethnicity and culture are integral parts of our existence and identity. They make our lives and our world more vibrant and more interesting but should not be used to harm us or turn as against each other. I believe in the universal language of smiles, love and compassion. I created a series of paintings based on this belief, as a celebration of the positive power of cultures and colours.

文化や民族や肌の色はアイデンティティを規定する。人々を結びつけることもあれば、バラバラにしてしまうこともある。文化や民族の旗印の元、私たちは国家を 建設し、戦争を行い、伝統を守ってきた。愛、親族の絆、忠誠心を育むこともあれば、軽蔑、憎しみ、優越感を生み出すこともある。 異なる民族や文化が存在するお蔭で、世界は一層活気のある、面白いものになっている。その一方で、微笑みや愛や思いやりの心などといった、民族や文化を超越する、普遍なものも存在する。 文化と色彩のポジティブな力を思いっきり祝いたい。
